5 Tips For Younger-Looking Eyes

When it comes to anti-aging skin care routines, the skin around our eyes can prove to be our most stubborn area of concern. This is because the delicate area around the eyes is one of the first areas to show some of the early signs of skin aging. From fine lines, to wrinkles, to puffy skin, to those dreaded crow’s feet, creating an anti-aging routine—on top of choosing the right eye cream—for your eyes can feel a bit daunting. Fortunately, there are a few tips and tricks to ease the process and help you achieve younger-looking eyes—we share the top five, below.

Give Your Eyes a Wake Up Call

Just like that morning cup of coffee helps to wake you up, caffeine can also help to wake up tired eyes and de-puff those pesky under-eye bags. Instead of slicing up some cucumbers, try soaking two green tea bags in hot water for about 1 minute. Then, dunk them in ice water before applying them to your swollen-looking eyes. The cooling effect of the ice water mixed with the caffeine in the tea can energize and hydrate the puffy skin around the eyes, leaving your eyes looking awake and more youthful.

Editor’s Tip: As an added bonus, you can use the leftover steeped green tea in a DIY ice cube facial. Simply pour the tea into ice cube trays and place in the freezer. Once frozen, apply one of the green tea ice cubes to the surface of your skin—avoiding your eyes. Doing so can promote some major skin care benefits—not to mention, it can be ultra refreshing.

Moisturize

Moisturizing the delicate skin around your eyes is necessary to ward off dryness and a wrinkled appearance. This is because the skin is like a sponge—when it hasn’t been moisturized, it’s dry and can make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable—and needs to remain hydrated in order to appear healthy-looking and youthful. Applying a thick eye cream in the evening and a lighter serum in the morning can breathe new life into the eye area and enhance the overall appearance.

Chill Your Eye Cream

Placing your eye cream in the fridge is another way to promote younger-looking eyes, as the cream can hydrate the delicate skin around your eyes and the cooling effect can soothe and de-puff the areas that may appear puffy or fatigued.

Highlight

Applying a highlighter, like Maybelline’s Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter, to the corners of the eye, under the eyebrow, and on top of the brow bone can brighten up the eyes, giving them a more youthful, awake look. To do so, dab the highlighter across these areas around the eye and blend outward with your fingertips. You can do this on top of your makeup or on clean skin to create an illuminating effect.

Conceal Dark Circles

When all else fails, turn to a trusty anti-aging concealer, like Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer. Made up of a super-concentrated formula that is infused with goji berry and an under-eye anti-aging ingredient known as Haloxyl, this concealer can reduce the appearance of dark circles and fine lines. Unfortunately, dark circles, and under-eye bags for that matter, are often hereditary, so you might not be able to get rid of them completely, but you can temporarily hide them behind a good concealer like the Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer.
