Give Your Skin Care Routine a Micelle Makeover

It’s no secret that the Skincare.com team is in love with micellar water. This French import has been making waves Stateside for sometime now and with its convenience and ease it’s clear why. One of our favorite micellar waters has been La Roche-Posay’s no-rinse cleansing water, so imagine our elation when we discovered the La Roche-Posay micellar collection had grown. We were lucky enough to get a few complimentary samples of the new products from the brand to try and review. Find out what we thought below!

What Are Micelles?

For those that need a little micelle refresher, allow us to explain. Micelles are tiny—microscopic in fact—cleansing molecules which have a lipophilic core that attracts oil and other impurities. Upon contact with the skin, micelles work by attracting dirt, excess oil, leftover makeup, and other nasties from the skin’s surface (like pollution) and trapping them before lifting them away. The best part is that with micelle technology there’s no need for harsh rubbing when cleansing your skin. What’s more, cleansers formulated with micelle technology typically help to maintain the skin’s moisture balance, removing impurities without stripping the skin of hydration.

La Roche-Posay Micellar Water Review

Available in three sizes—400 ML, 200 ML, and a recently-added travel-sized 100 ML bottle—La Roche-Posay’s Micellar Water was one of the first no-rinse cleansing solutions we tried. Ideal for all skin types, even sensitive, this micellar water cleanses the skin, removes makeup, purifies, soothes, while respecting the physiological pH of the skin. The paraben-free, oil-free formula takes the place of both your daily cleanser and toner and is so convenient it can be used to cleanse your skin on the go.

We love this cleanser because it needs no additional water to work, making it a great option for after the gym and, thanks to the new travel-sized option, while in route to a new destination. The solution is formulated with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water which is rich in antioxidants and poloxamer which is a mild cleanser. This particular micellar water is able to completely cleanse our skin of makeup—even mascara—without having to scrub and rub. Plus, since it’s designed to respect the skin’s optimal pH balance, after cleansing our complexion doesn’t feel dry or tight but rather comfortable and hydrated.

La Roche-Posay Micellar Water Gel Review

One of the newest additions to the brand’s micellar collection is the La Roche-Posay Makeup Remover Micellar Water Gel. Suitable for all skin types including sensitive, this paraben-free cleansing gel is formulated with La Roche-Posay’s antioxidant-rich Thermal Spring Water and helps to purify and soothe the skin while respecting its pH balance.

This specific cleanser was created to effectively remove makeup and that’s precisely what it does—in addition to cleansing the complexion of dirt and other impurities. We loved the soothing gel texture and how, despite being a gel cleanser, there was no need to rinse the formula away once you’re done washing your face. There’s a subtle fragrance that helps to make cleansing your skin more of a sensorial experience. We’ve found that this is the ideal cleanser to add to a double cleanse routine—which you can learn more about here!

La Roche-Posay Micellar Foaming Water Review

Prefer rinsing? Consider reaching for a water-based cleanser. La Roche-Posay Micellar Foaming Water is suitable for even sensitive skin and, like its collection counterparts, it purifies and soothes the skin while respecting its physiological pH balance.

We loved that once again we had another reason to love micelle technology. This water-based foaming cleanser helps to cleanse the skin’s surface of dirt, oil, and other impurities and its formula is surprisingly hydrating. Unlike the other cleansers in this collection, the Foaming Water must be rinsed away afterwards and isn’t suitable for removing eye makeup.

Remember no matter which formula you chose it’s important to always moisturize your skin immediately after cleansing. This helps to lock in necessary hydration and keep your complexion looking and feeling its best. Learn more about the importance of hydration here!
