Why You Should Start Using a Facial Loofah
If ever there was a mantra for facial exfoliation — or, exfoliation in general — it would be “out with the old and in with the new.” Because, well, that is exactly what exfoliation means. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, our skin sheds between 30,000 and 40,000 dead skin cells on the regular — read: every single day! And while this process (called desquamation) is entirely natural, as we age, the shedding process slows down a bit, causing a possible buildup of dead skin cells on skin’s surface. This buildup can cause anything from dry skin, a dull-looking skin tone, and even breakouts. Penciling in a weekly or twice a week exfoliation helps to remove this buildup of dead skin cells, revealing a more radiant complexion! While you can use scrubs and chemical exfoliators to get the job done, one of our favorite ways to gently exfoliate is with a facial loofah.
What Do Facial Loofahs Do?
Similar to body loofahs, facial loofahs work in harmony with a daily cleanser to gently exfoliate dead skin cell buildup and other impurities from the skin’s surface — you know that stuff that may be jeopardizing your chances of a clear, smooth — not to mention: glowing — complexion. Giving your skin a good weekly or twice a week gentle scrub down can be beneficial for a number of reasons. Exfoliation helps to improve the effectiveness of your favorite topical skin care products since they no longer have to fight through a layer of dry, dead skin cells. Plus, when you use a facial loofah, like you can also rid the skin’s surface of excess oil and boost surface circulation. We recommend the 3-Disc Pack from Earth Therapeutics to get you started because they are small, user-friendly, and can be paired with any cleanser.
While a facial loofah is most ideal for dry skin that seeks regular exfoliation, it can also be used sparingly on other skin types. Start by applying the cleanser directly to a damp face loofah pad and using very gentle upward, circular motions to exfoliate and massage dry, dull skin. Regular exfoliation with these pads can result in smoother, softer, more polished looking skin — and you’ll thank us later.
