3 Easy-to-Follow Skin Care Tips from a Social Media Beauty Star
Scrolling through social media, if you come across Angela Hoffer’s profile (aka Angela Marie), you’d likely fall into an instant rabbit hole of likes and comments questioning how she does it. From a flawless complexion and pouty lips to perfectly blended smoky eyes and sculpted brows, the social media beauty star clearly knows a thing or two about beauty, and the scope of her followers shows just how many people love to follow her story. Knowing how much our readers one) love beauty and 2) love social media, we knew that we had to get in touch with Hoffer to see what we could learn. Ahead we share her very favorite beauty tips and how to implement them for a picture-worthy complexion.
Tip #1: Always Wash Your Face…No Matter How Exhausted You Are
A simple yet effective skin care routine, morning and night, paired with proper lifestyle habits is the key to a gorgeous-looking complexion, and Hoffer knows that firsthand. “Typically, I wake up and make sure to drink plenty of water to hydrate because I notice such a difference in my skin when I'm dehydrated,” Hoffer says. Next, Hoffer relies on a quick swipe of L’Oréal Paris Ideal Clean All Skin Types Makeup Removing Towelettes to remove any dirt and debris that made its way onto her face overnight, followed by an oil-control toner, anti-wrinkle cream formulated with SPF and a caffeinated moisturizer to top it all off. “It makes my skin feel so awake!” she says. And, with the added bonus of SPF, she can feel better about the biggest skin care regret from her past. “I wish I never let my face see sunlight [without sunscreen]!” she says. “Literally I regret all the years of not wearing sunscreen. When I see these young girls with beautiful porcelain skin hitting the tanning beds, I just want to save them!”
At night—after a long day of slaying as a social media beauty star—Hoffer makes sure to wash her face, no matter how exhausted she is. “Wash your face every night! Preventative skin care maintenance is much easier than trying to address problematic skin,” she says. To cleanse her skin, Hoffer relies on a double-cleanse method starting with a makeup wipe followed by a charcoal-rich cleanser. She enjoys using a facial brush to really massage the cleansing formula into her skin. From there, she exfoliates with a deep-pore cleanser to draw out any built-up, pore-clogging impurities.
I just think it's so important to hydrate your skin. No matter how much makeup you wear, bad skin will shine through it!
Tip #2: Don’t Pick at Blemishes
We’ve told you once and we’ll tell you again, picking at your blemishes, no matter how pesky they may be, is never a good idea. Hoffer wholeheartedly agrees. “Picking at your blemishes can leave behind a scar, not to mention cause longer healing times,” she cautions. “Just dab an acne spot treatment over the affected areas and you’ll be much better off.” Reach for one that’s formulated with acne-fighting ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Editor’s note: If you’re using more than one acne medication at once, keep in mind that skin irritation and dryness may occur. If you notice it, reduce your use to just one acne medication at a time.
Tip #3: Nourish Your Skin with a Face Mask Once or Twice a Week
While Hoffer’s skin care routine is relatively simple, it’s clear to see why her skin looks as good as it does. As much as she relies on cleansing daily and not picking at her skin to maintain her double-tap worthy complexion, she’s a sucker for fast-acting face masks that call for little time to deliver benefits—and for good reason! In as little as five minutes (in some cases) she can deliver her skin with hydration, brightening or extra exfoliation. Um, yes please.
After Hoffer completes her masking, she likes to lock in the added benefits of her just-finished routine with a super hydrating moisturizer. In fact, she says that if there were one product she could absolutely not live without, it’d be a great moisturizer. “I just think it's so important to hydrate your skin,” Hoffer says. “No matter how much makeup you wear, bad skin will shine through it!”
