A Celebrity Esthetician's Top Skin Care Secrets
We’re curious in what nutritionists eat and the toothpaste dentists use on their pearly whites in the same way we’re utterly fascinated by how estheticians care for their own skin. Not only are they qualified to shell out skin care advice to clients (after all, they are ogling the pores, texture, and tone of peoples’ skin day in and day out) but they often heed by those exact tips and tricks themselves—and have the bright, luminous-looking skin to show for it. Case in point? Celebrity esthetician and Decleor Brand Ambassador Mzia Shiman. We asked her to share the top skin care rules she always follows and now we’re sharing them with you! Grab a pen and some paper ladies—it’s time to take notes.
Rule #1: Get a Monthly Facial
Estheticians are the facial gurus, so it makes sense why Shiman will never pass up on the ritual when it comes to her own skin. (Quite frankly, it would be a red flag if an esthetician were against facials.) And why should she? The benefits of facials are endless, with clean skin, hydration, glow, and a youthful-looking appearance among them. Not only are facials incredibly relaxing, they can also keep signs of stressed skin side—breakouts, dullness, dryness, etc.—at bay. Thus, Shiman admits that a regular facial—once a month is best— can help deep-clean pores and rid surface skin of impurities.
Rule #2: Use the Right Products
Your skin care regimen is only as good as the products and tools that make it up. The amount of time you spend pampering your body’s largest organ will be for naught if your arsenal is filled with the wrong products, i.e. ones that aren’t formulated for your skin type or target your key skin concerns. Also, keep in mind the time of year. “Using the right cleanser for the right time of year is crucial,” Shiman says. “Especially when we get closer to the colder months of fall and winter.” When in doubt, visit your esthetician for a tailor-made skin care routine for your unique skin type.
Rule #3: Wear Hydrating Masks
Hydrating masks are a great way to lock in moisture and revive dull, dry complexions because they melt onto skin instantly and quench skin’s thirst. Well, the good ones anyway, like Decleor’s Intensive Brightening Sheet Mask. It’s formulated with a “White Focus” plant complex and vitamin C to help brighten the appearance of skin, even out a complexion, moisturize (duh) and soothe the skin—. It’s got Shiman’s stamp of approval!
Rule #4: Don’t Forget to Apply Eye Cream, Day Cream, and Night Balm
Shiman admits that her routine includes an application of eye cream, day cream, and night cream, as well. For eyes that look dull and tired, try Decleor’s Aroma White C+ Anti-Dark Circle Multi-Brightening Eye Care. The formula helps reduce the appearance of dehydration lines and dark circles to reveal a brighter eye contour area. As far as day cream goes, there’s no shortage of options out there. One of Shiman’s favorites is Decleor’s Harmonie Calm Soothing Milky Cream to help soothe, hydrate, and protect skin against external irritants. And lastly, for silky-soft and hydrated skin, coat your skin in Decleor’s Aromessence Neroli Hydrating Night Balm before hitting the sack.
