Mattify With Micellar: Garnier’s New Micellar Water For Oily Skin

At Skincare.com one of our favorite methods for cleansing our skin is using micellar water. These no-rinse cleansers—which garnered their initial popularity in France—give our skin care routines a certain je nais se quoi they would otherwise be lacking. Not to mention they are the height of convenience since you never need to be near a sink to lather and rinse! However, for those with oily skin, micellar water may never have felt like a viable cleansing option…that is, until now. Garnier SkinActive recently launched a new micellar water specifically formulated for oily skin types! Naturally, we had to try it. The brand sent over a few complimentary samples for the team to review—find out how this new mattifying micellar water measured up below.

Garnier All-in-1 Mattifying Micellar Cleansing Water

The main reason we love micellar water is its ease of use. These all-in-one cleansers utilize micelle technology to effectively remove makeup, dirt, and other impurities from the skin’s surface without stripping your complexion of moisture. So, there’s no rinsing, no rubbing, and no need to reach for other cleansing formulas after you’re done. While they are easy to use and effective, those with oily skin haven’t always felt satisfied with the results in the past—often complaining of a greasy feeling after using certain solutions. Garnier, aiming to address this concern, formulated their new All-in-1 Mattifying Micellar Cleansing Water.

Like its counterparts, this all-in-one cleanser—fitted with a green cap—cleanses the skin, purifies pores, removes makeup and other impurities from the skin’s surface without harsh rubbing. But, unlike its counterparts, it can leave the skin looking mattified and shine-free without a greasy residue.

As big fans of the original two micellar water formulas from Garnier—we share our thoughts on those here—we were excited to try a formula that left our oily skin looking matte. We were even more excited to see that it delivered on its promises! Like the other micellar water formulas from Garnier, this formula truly does cleanse the skin, leaving it refreshed, but we also noticed our skin looked mattified, which is a major win for those with oily skin.

To use, simply soak a cotton pad with the solution and gently wipe across your face. In areas where you may be wearing more makeup—like your eyes or lips—soak a new cotton pad, allow the pad to sit on the area for a moment and then gently wipe away. The formula is suitable to use on your eyes and mouth so its one less thing to have to worry about when you’re removing your makeup! Afterwards you must still reach for moisturizer—yes, even if you have oily skin—in order to lock in hydration. We recommend trying a gel-based moisturizer which sinks in and also leaves skin looking matte.

Another reason to love this new mattifying micellar water for oily skin? The price! With an MSRP of under $10 this is one beauty purchase that won’t break the bank.
