How To Get Dewy Skin In Dry Climates, 10 Simple Tricks to Try

While many of us are battling some serious humidity this summer, others who reside in dry climates are missing the moisture. Climates that lack humidity—whether it’s seasonal or geographical—make it tough to maintain a hydrated complexion....tough, but not impossible! In order to get that dewy-looking complexion, you just have to work a little bit harder. Below, we share ten tips to help get dewy-looking skin in dry climates.

First, Exfoliate

Dry, dehydrated-looking skin is an unfortunate side effect of low moisture climates and can often lead to dull-looking complexions and a buildup of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. To help restore radiance, pencil in a weekly exfoliation into your regularly scheduled skin care routine. Head-to-toe exfoliation—whether mechanical with scrubs and brushes or chemical with alpha hydroxy acids—helps to remove that buildup of dry, dead skin and prep your skin to better absorb moisture from the rest of your skin care regimen

Then, Moisturize

It may seem obvious, but moisturizer is the ultimate shield against dry climates. Skipping this step, especially after you cleanse and/or exfoliate your skin, can cause your skin to appear more dull over time, taking you further and further away from the dewy complexion you’re after. Reach for moisturizers that can benefit your specific skin type!

Drink Up

Dehydrated and dewy never go hand-in-hand. To stay hydrated from the inside, out, keep a full water bottle in tow at all times. Not into plain H2O? Try one of our favorite fruit and herb-infused water recipes.

High Humidity

If you live in a dry climate—or simply work in a dry office—get ready to meet your new BFF. Humidifiers emit water vapor to increase the humidity in the air, which is necessary for the skin to retain moisture. Keep one in the bedroom or invest in a small portable one for your desk.

Protect Yourself

Dermatologists largely agree that the most important step in any skin care routine—and the only one proven to combat the damaging effects of the sun—is sunscreen. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or more each and every day and avoid prolonged time in the sun which can dry out your skin, keeping it from looking dewy.

Layer on a Mask

Once a week, layer on a hydrating facial mask in between cleansing and moisturizing. Look for water-based formulas that contain hyaluronic acid, a potent humectant that can attract and hold on to up to 1000x its own weight in water!

Pencil in a Facial

If it’s in the budget, a once-a-month spa date with a trained esthetician can be hugely beneficial in helping you get glowing, dewy skin. Plus, estheticians are more than happy to jot down a personalized regimen for high-quality care at home. Interested in learning how a celebrity esthetician takes care of her supermodel client's skin? Fake It

Want dewy-looking skin? Fake it ‘til you make it with highlighters and setting spray. Strobing is a popular makeup technique that mimics the way the sun reflects off of glowing, gorgeous skin. Once your highlight is in place, give it staying power with a quick spritz of NYX Professional Makeup Makeup Setting Spray – Dewy.

Spritz On the Go

We’re obsessed with facial mists at Skincare.com. We keep them on our desks, in our purses, and in our fridge to help quickly hit the refresh button on our skin, wherever we are.
