What Is Micellar Water?
Before we review L’Oréal’s micellar waters, it’s probably good to start with sharing what these innovative no-rinse cleansers are to begin with. Micellar water works by utilizing tiny, round micelle cleansing molecules which are suspended in a solution. These molecules attract, cluster together to trap, and gently lift away impurities—everything from makeup to pollution to oil—from the skin’s surface without the need for harsh rubbing. Micellar water has been popular in France for ages since it was an answer to the nation’s notorious problem with hard water. The thing about hard water is that it has an alkaline pH which, when in contact with the skin, can cause it to become dry and dehydrated, and even experience sensitivity. This is because hard water throws our skin’s optimal pH (which is slightly acidic) off balance. Since micellar water doesn’t require you to use additional water to lather up or rinse, it’s a great option for those looking to avoid the negative effects of hard water.
L’Oréal Paris Micellar Water
While these cleansers have been the go-to for French girls—and guys!—for years, in the last year they’ve become a mainstream option here in the States as well. The latest addition to the micellar water roll call comes care of iconic drugstore brand, L’Oréal Paris. But, what makes L’Oréal Paris’ micellar waters stand out from the pack is that these no-rinse cleansing solutions are not one-size-fits-all. Unlike other brands, L’Oréal Paris offers three unique formulas formulated for specific skin types and skin care concerns. We were lucky enough to get our hands on all three for our review and honestly had a hard time picking a favorite! L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water For Normal-to-Oily Skin Review
This complete cleanser, like its other counterparts, can help remove makeup and dirt from the surface of skin. But, unlike the other formulas, this cleansing solution can also help remove excess oil from the skin’s surface making it key for oily skin types. Often with oily skin, we over-cleanse and over-exfoliate in hopes that the source of that excess sebum will somehow shut off. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. By over-doing it with face wash and scrubs, you end up stripping the skin of the oils it needs to stay hydrated naturally. In turn, our sebaceous glands go into overdrive in hopes to compensate for what they perceive to be a lack of moisture. L’Oréal Micellar Water for Normal to Oily Skin—with the teal cap—is a gentle alternative to harsh, oil-stripping cleansers. In just one step—read: no wetting your face first, working up a lather, and rinsing thoroughly—makeup, dirt, and excess oil are gently removed leaving the skin purified and looking matte. We loved how this micellar water cleansed our skin and left it feeling completely clean without the greasy residue many other no-rinse cleansers can leave behind. After using three cotton balls soaked with the solution our skin was cleansed and ready for a little moisture. If you have oily skin, consider reaching for a gel- or water-based moisturizer as they are lightweight and can help give oily skin the hydration it needs.
L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water For Normal-to-Dry Skin Review
If excess oil isn’t a concern but dryness is reach for the pink-capped micellar water from L’Oréal Paris. Formulated with dry skin in mind, this complete cleanser removes makeup and cleanses dirt and impurities off skin’s surface, while hydrating and soothing skin. If you feel like your old cleansers are too harsh—be it the time of the year or just because your skin type has changed with age—this is a great alternative. One of the things we loved about this micellar water was how moisturized our skin felt after cleansing. In the past, many cleansers we’ve tried have left us with that squeaky clean feeling that often precedes tightness and dry skin. Not L’Oréal Paris’ Micellar Cleansing Water. Formulated with glycerin, this micellar water cleanses skin and helps to maintain that integral moisture balance. After using we followed with a serum and a rich moisturizer to help lock in that hydration.
L’Oréal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water For Waterproof Makeup
The final product of L’Oréal Paris’ micellar water trifecta is a formula that can not only cleanse dirt and impurities but can also remove waterproof makeup. Suitable for all skin types—even sensitive—this waterproof makeup remover can be used on the face, eyes, and lips. We don’t know about you, but for us, taking off waterproof mascara at the end of the day can often mean lots of rubbing and scrubbing. This gentle formula completely removes the need to do this, removing everything from stubborn mascara to bold red lips in a matter of seconds. We share everything you need to know about using this innovative no-rinse cleanser to remove waterproof makeup here (bonus: there’s even a video!).
