Editor's Pick: SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic Review
One of the most buzzed-about—and coveted—skin care serums in the industry is inarguably SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. This combination antioxidant treatment containing L-ascorbic acid (or vitamin C for those of us that need a chem class refresh), alpha tocopherol (or vitamin E), and ferulic acid, has been given high marks by beauty editors and board-certified dermatologists alike. This is perhaps because this tiny serum (1 fluid ounce in case you were wondering) packs a mighty punch when used as part of an anti-aging skin care routine. We were recently sent a complimentary sample of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic to review and frankly this beauty product lives up to the hype. Below we share our review of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, its benefits, who the product is tailored for, and more!
The Benefits of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic
The most impressive benefit of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic—that made me most excited to review it—is its ability to neutralize free radicals which can contribute to the premature signs of skin aging. As a 30 year-old women in New York City, air pollution is always top of mind…because you know, I can both smell and see it. If you weren’t already aware, air pollution and the free radicals it creates are a leading cause of the signs of skin aging. This is because when free radicals are formed they separate oxygen molecules, in an effort to be paired once again with a mate, these free oxygen radicals can attach to components of our skin—namely the collagen and elastin we rely on to look young. Once attached, they begin to break down these necessary protein fibers and everything from fine lines and wrinkles to dark spots and the sagging appearance of skin can ensue. One line of defense? Antioxidants. Our consulting board-certified dermatologist Dr. Lisa Ginn tells us that when you layer antioxidants (under your sunscreen of course) on your skin each morning, these free oxygen radicals are served up an alternative mate. So, instead of linking themselves to your collagen and elastin, they attach to the antioxidants. Her product recommendation? SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic! The serum combines antioxidant vitamins C and E with ferulic acid to help skin’s defense against environmental damage.
Another added benefit of Skin C E Ferulic that I was excited to review were its anti-aging claims. In addition to air pollution another source of free radicals—and subsequently skin aging—is the sun. The synergistic formulation of the antioxidants in SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic helps to enhance protection against free radicals formed by damaging UVA and UVB rays to better prevent premature signs of aging, while stimulating collagen production to help diminish the appearance of photodamage. While the serum alone cannot protect skin from the other nasty side effects of UVA and UVB rays—read: sunburns and skin cancer—when used with broad-spectrum sunscreen your skin will be well protected from free radicals and environmental damage that can age your skin prematurely. What’s more, According to the American Academy of Dermatology, products formulated with vitamin C can not only soften the appearance of fine lines but may also help to lighten dark spots over time with continued use. Plus, SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic can also help replenish lipids to reduce the look of wrinkles revealing younger-looking skin while helping to defend skin free radicals.
How to Use SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is packaged in a dark glass bottle with a dropper. The reason for this is because vitamin C oxidizes over time—which can cause the formula to darken but remain effective—especially when placed in sunlight. For best results, keep your C E Ferulic in a cool, dry, dark place like your linen closet. To use, first cleanse your skin to remove any buildup of impurities on the skin’s surface. Next apply 4-5 drops to a dry face, neck, and chest. Follow up with a hydrating moisturizer and a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or more.
Who Should Use SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic
The lightweight serum is ideal for those with dry, normal, or sensitive skin. Personally my skin is normal though it can lean on the dry side in the winter months causing the few fine lines I’ve started to accumulate to appear more pronounced.
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Review
Before trying any new product, I tend to do a little research—meaning, I read all SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Reviews I could find on my bus ride home one day. That night I was eager (and excited) to get started. Upon first use I noticed how light the liquid serum was and made a point to be cautious with how fast I pumped the dropper—let’s face it, this is an expensive product and you’ll want to use just the 4-5 drops a day in order to get the most out of the bottle. While it is fragrance-free I did note that there was a slight scent though not unpleasant. I also noticed that unless I immediately followed up with a moisturizer, it left my skin feeling a little sticky, but immediately after putting a moisturizer on that feeling went away and my skin felt smooth and hydrated. Conclusion? 5 stars! This dermatologist-recommended serum isn’t a 22-time beauty award winner for nothing. After using the serum for two months, I noticed the overall tone of my skin looked more radiant, and the wrinkles on my forehead (that admittedly were probably more like fine lines that I noticed when I scrutinized my face in the mirror) had softened in appearance. I loved knowing that every day when I entered New York City from my tree-lined suburban neighborhood I could rest a little easier knowing my skin was shielded from the smog, the smokers, that that questionable stuff that was being emitted from the subway grates. Will I purchase when the last few drops are done? Absolutely!
