This Face Mask Is My Skin’s Fall Savior
I’m guilty of loving face masks a little too much — can you blame me, though? Something about the 20-ish minutes of uninterrupted self-care transports me to a complete place of zen (like yoga, but in pajamas and without sweat, so, better). I’m all about nightly R&R, so when Kiehl’s gifted me their Ultra Facial Hydrating Masque for the purposes of this review, I jumped at the chance to upgrade my short-lived masking routine to an overnight experience. Plus, with the colder fall air kicking in these past few weeks, my skin has been in serious need of hydration. Read on for all the details about how this mask has become a mainstay on my bathroom shelf this season.
The Ingredient Lowdown
The hydrating power of this mask is thanks to its amazing ingredients, including fountain plant extract, antarcticine and imperata cylindrica. The formula works to smooth and hydrate skin overnight for supreme moisturization. Each ingredient has its own superpower, and when the three come together, my skin is left feeling plump and moisturized. Fountain plant extract is a drought-resistant hydrator that seals in moisture and improves the skin’s barrier. The second of the three ingredients is antarcticine, also known as glacial glycoprotein extract. Derived from sea glaciers, it adds cryoprotective properties to the mask that allow it to defend your skin — and its moisture — from cold temperatures. The final key component to this amazing cream is a potassium-rich extract called imperata cylindrica that gives skin both immediate and long-lasting hydration.
Here’s What Happened
With a completely fresh canvas, I opened the Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque and applied a decently thick layer of the creamy product all over my face and let it sink in. It had a smooth, rich consistency and melted onto my skin. After about ten minutes, I grabbed a cotton ball (you can use a tissue, too) and dabbed away the excess product. If I’m being completely candid, when I woke up with an amazingly supple and hydrated complexion, I wasn’t expecting any revolutionary change to my skin long-term. I’ve tested products that run the gamut when it comes to hydrating masks and normally only find a short-term solution that leaves my skin just as dry 48 hours later. That being said, I was beyond overjoyed to be proven wrong. This mask is the real deal. Come the three-day mark, my skin was still feeling the after-effects of the mask’s hydration, even with the cold, city winds. The mask gave me an I-just-left-the-spa glow the morning after and made my skin feel ridiculously soft. I’ve been breaking out this overnight savior twice a week given my dry skin, but you can also use it once weekly if you prefer. Trust me, this is a must-have fall purchase.
I was gifted this product for the purpose of reviewing it, but all opinions and thoughts are my own.
