Dermatologists Share Their 4 Most-Requested Treatments

There are plenty of reasons to visit a dermatologist. Maybe you’re having trouble curbing a bad breakout or you’re heading in for an annual skin check. Or maybe you’re looking to get a treatment done in-office, which led us to wonder: what are the most-requested treatments? To get the inside scoop on what treatments are most popular at the dermatologist’s office, we spoke with four of our consulting experts. Of course, we’re filling you in on what we discovered and sharing four of the most-requested skin care treatments, in no particular order.

Most-Requested Treatment #1: Wrinkle-Fighting Injections

No matter how much effort you put into curating the perfect anti-aging skin care routine, it’s a fact of life that wrinkles and other signs of aging will eventually appear. Nourishing face creams, preventative sun protection, and other anti-aging skin care products can help with reducing the appearance of wrinkles (and keeping them from coming in prematurely), but it will likely take continued use and time. For more immediate benefits, many people look to injections—at least that’s what we’ve gathered by speaking to our consulting dermatologists. Every single one we asked—including Dr. Joshua Zeichner, Dr. Michael Kaminer, Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali, and Dr. Laura Holsey—listed wrinkle-fighting injections, like botulinum toxin therapy, as one of their most requested treatments.

For further evidence of why these injections are so commonplace, all you have to do is look at what the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has to say on the topic. According to the AAD, botulinum toxin therapy or botulinum rejuvenation can be used to address frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet, with most people seeing results within three to seven days. The treatment necessitates just a single visit to a dermatologist, and the results typically last for about three to four months. It’s also considered a plus that patients can typically return to everyday activities immediately after the procedure.

Most-Requested Treatment #2: Fillers

Next up, fillers. If you’re starting to pick up on a pattern among these treatments, you wouldn’t be mistaken. Many of the most-requested treatments are provided with the intent of making patients’ skin appear more youthful, and fillers—which both Dr. Zeichner and Dr. Kaminer note as one of their most popular offerings—are no exception. As you age, just as wrinkles develop, your skin can also begin to loss the volume and firmness that once marked your youth. For many, that’s an indication to try fillers. The AAD states that fillers can be used to restore lost fullness in your face, lips, and hands. One of the most notable things about fillers is that many deliver immediate results, making them extremely appealing for many patients. Those who seek fillers are also fans because they usually can be completed in one office visit, and similar to wrinkle-reducing injections, daily activities can be resumed right away.

Most-Requested Treatment #3: Lasers

There’s no such thing as a one size fits all skin care treatment, but if there were, we have a feeling it would be a laser. According to the AAD, laser treatments (of which there are a wide variety) can be used to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, sagging skin, acne, and more. Knowing that, you can see why Dr. Zeichner named lasers as one of his most-requested treatments.

What Is Dermaplaning, Exactly

Most-Requested Treatment #4: Dermaplaning

Have you heard of dermaplaning? This treatment may not be quite as widely known as fillers and lasers are, but we can only expect that it will be in the near future. In case you aren’t already familiar with the treatment, Cleveland Clinic describes dermaplaning as a procedure in which a specialized instrument (a sharp surgical scalpel, to be exact) is used to “sand the skin”. This action removes dead skin cells and facial fair, and can lead to more radiant-looking skin. Dr. Holsey, who identifies dermaplaning as one of the most-requested procedures she performs, shares that her patients love the treatment for how it makes their skin look and feel.
