4 Fall Skin Care Habits to Start Now
With fall in full swing, what better way to prepare your skin for the dry months ahead than to start incorporating skin hydrating and nourishing elements into your skin care regimen? From exfoliating your skin from head to toe to hydrating hand and foot treatments, we’re sharing the four fall skin care habits to add to your daily and weekly skin care routines now, below.
With the lack of humidity in the air, fall and winter months can be harsh on the skin— especially if you are prone to dryness. Dry brushing can be a great way to slough off dead, dry skin cells from the surface of your skin, revealing smoother, softer skin underneath. Look for a dry brush that has natural bristles, like The Body Shop’s Long Handled Cactus Body Brush, which is made with Maguey cactus fibers and can be used for both dry brushing or exfoliating the skin while in the shower or bath. Using face masks is a great way to target dry weather skin concerns like dry skin and dull complexions. But, this fall, we challenge you to take things up a notch by incorporating hydrating, nourishing, and replenishing overnight face masks into your skin care regimen. Try Vichy’s no-rinse Quenching Mineral Face Mask. Formulated with the brand’s exclusive Mineralizing Thermal Water, glycerin, and vitamin B3, this overnight face mask helps to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier, hydrate and nourish the complexion, and revitalize the skin with lasting moisture. To use, simply apply a thin layer to the complexion and allow it to sit for five minutes. Once your time is up, remove any excess mask with a cotton pad or massage into your skin.
Editor’s tip: For a cooling effect, I like to store the Quenching Mineral Face Mask in the fridge. Applying the cooled mask to my skin post hot shower or bath makes it feel extra comforted and refreshed.
No thanks to the dry climate, fall and winter are prime time for a dull skin tone—which is often the result of a build up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. Brighten up the appearance of your complexion with a little facial exfoliation using either our coconut, lavender, and honey DIY sugar scrub recipe, or a facial loofah, like The Body Shop’s Smooth & Renew Face Loofah Pads. By gently exfoliating your complexion, you can slough off dry, dead skin cells from the surface of your skin and reveal a smoother, softer, more radiant-looking complexion underneath. Plus, exfoliation help to prepare the skin to soak up hydrating serums and moisturizers.
We don’t know about you but, for us, one of the worst parts about dry weather is how dry our hands and feet can get— which is why we like to deep condition them a few times a week using a pair of cotton gloves, socks, and a hydrating balm like, Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. To do so, simply coat your hands and feet in the salve and cover them with the socks and gloves before hopping into bed. This can ensure that the salve stays on your hands and feet—read: doesn’t get all over your freshly-laundered sheets—and deep conditions while you sleep.
