How to Recreate a Beauty Look Straight Off the Runway

Equally as enchanting as the high-fashion pieces gracing the catwalk during fashion week are the beauty looks that tie the outfits together. Even though the shows may be almost over (tear), there’s still time to recreate some of your favorite makeup looks from this year’s runways, like—for example—the thick brow and matte lip combo from the Cushnie et Ochs show. We went backstage with Maybelline New York makeup artist Gato to discover the inspiration behind the sexy look, the budget-friendly Maybelline products that were used, and—most importantly—how you can perfectly recreate the look at home with ease. All that (and more!) below.

THE INSPIRATION

“The designer wanted to keep the girls’ makeup looking sophisticated, but also kind of messy,” Gato said. “We have created a beautiful foundation that’s flawless but still very natural and transparent. That’s followed by soft contouring to make the look more sophisticated, and strobing to build a glow. Then, we used a pink matte eyeshadow on the eyelids, a black liner over the upper lashline and smudged a brown one on top of that for a messier effect. Mascara was layered on the upper lashes and only in the center of the bottom lashes. As for brows, they’re thick and not too perfect, like the kind of woman that doesn’t spend too much time tweezing her brows. Lastly, we used a matte lip color on the lips. That’s it—very natural, very fresh, and very beautiful.”

GET THE LOOK

Ready to try the look at home? First things first, prep your skin. “I prepped the models’ skin with a lot of moisturizing cream to keep a natural glow,” Gato told Skincare.com. “Follow up with a tiny amount of foundation—whatever amount is necessary—to allow the skin to still breathe and look very fresh.”

STEP 1: FACE

Speaking of foundation, Gato used Dream Cushion Foundation, his favorite product out of all the ones used in this look. He then applied Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer over imperfections (or where needed) followed by the FaceStudio Master Contour V-Shape Duo Stick to contour the cheekbones and add dimension. As a final step for the face, Gato applied a bit of highlighter using FaceStudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter for a natural-looking glow.

STEP 2: BROWS

To create thick, wild eyebrows, Gato used Brow Fiber Volumizer for fullness followed by Brow Drama Shaping Chalk Powder to add thickness and fill in any gaps.

STEP 3: EYES

Gato applied the soft matte pink shadow from The Blushed Nudes Palette and blended it gently into the crease of the lid. Then, he tight-lined the upper lashline with EyeStudio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Sleek Onyx. For a messy effect, he layered EyeStudio Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil in Glazed Toffee right above the black liner and smudged both together. He finished the eyes with multiple coats of The Colossal Big Shot Mascara on top and only in the center of the bottom lashes.

STEP 4: LIPS

As a last step, Gato applied a gorgeous matte pinkish nude shade—Color Sensational Inti-Matte Nudes in Almond Rose, to be exact—on the lips.
