I Tried The Korean 7 Skin Method and Here’s What Happened

Have you heard of the 7 Skin Method? This trendy Korean beauty technique is getting a lot of buzz on so many of our favorite beauty blogs so naturally we had to try it out for ourselves! See what happened when one of our beauty editors applied multiple layers of toner to her skin, ahead.

When it comes to buzz-worthy beauty trends, I am no stranger. I’ve tried strobing my complexion with a skin care-inspired highlighter cream, color-correcting my complexion for a flawless-looking makeup application, partook in the no-makeup makeup challenge, and more. My latest experiment? A Korean beauty trend known as the “seven skin method.” Find out more about this trending skin care technique, plus see my review of the technique, ahead.

WHAT IS THE KOREAN SEVEN SKIN METHOD?

Before I share my experience, let’s discuss what the Korean seven skin method actually is. In short, the popular K-beauty trend is a skin care routine that involves applying seven layers of toner onto your skin in the name of dewy-looking skin. You’re probably wondering why someone would ever agree to spend more time than necessary on one step in their already extensive 10-step routine and I realize that seven layers of toner seems a little overkill, but trust me when I say that it was well worth the time investment.

WHAT TONER SHOULD I USE FOR THE KOREAN SEVEN SKIN METHOD?

When it comes to toner—especially one that you are going to be using seven times in a row—we recommend using a hydrating toner that is free of alcohol and formulated to promote soft, smooth, balanced-looking skin.

HOW TO USE THE KOREAN SEVEN SKIN METHOD IN YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

As I previously mentioned, the Korean seven skin method is a technique that calls for applying seven layers of your favorite facial toner—however, this doesn’t mean doing seven quick sweeps across your face with a toner-soaked cotton pad… like most beauty rituals, there is a method to the madness. Keep reading for a step-by-step guide to the K-beauty seven skin method.

Step One: Cleanse your skin with a gentle face wash.

This goes without saying, but the first step of any skin care routine should be cleansing. Cleansing your skin can not only help to remove pore-clogging dirt and debris from the skin’s surface, it can also help provide a fresh purified canvas, too.

Step Two: Use a cotton pad to apply the first layer of toner across your skin.

Once you’ve cleansed your skin, apply a dime-size amount of alcohol-free toner to a cotton pad and gently sweep the pad across your skin and neck. Once all areas are covered, allow the toner to absorb before moving onto step three/ the next layer.

Step Three: Pour toner into the palms of your hands and gently press the toner onto your skin.

Once your first layer of toner has been absorbed, it’s time for the second layer. For layers two through seven, you won’t need a cotton pad—just a pair of clean hands! When you’re ready to apply, add a dime-size amount of toner into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, then gently press them onto your skin and neck. Then, wait for your skin to absorb the product and move onto the third layer.

Step Four: Repeat step three until you have reached lucky number seven.

After waiting for your skin to absorb the preceding layer of toner, follow the directions for step three for the next five layers.

Step Five: Apply a lightweight moisturizer.

Once the toner-layering process is all said and done, it’s time for hydration. We recommend sticking with a lightweight moisturizer to help hydrate your skin.

MY RESULTS AFTER TRYING THE SEVEN SKIN METHOD

To be completely honest, I was expecting this experiment to go great—especially after seeing so many girls share their amazing results on social media—but, I never expected it to go as well as it did. After applying seven layers of toner to my skin, my skin looked soft, supple, and refreshed. What’s more? The seven layers of toner provided my skin with a beautiful glow. A week and approximately 49 layers of toner later and my dry, post-winter skin appeared nourished with a healthy-looking glow.

While this skin care technique gave me results that were better than expected, I don’t think I will be adopting this trend as an everyday part of my routine just yet. Because—if I am being honest—even as someone who is obsessed with skin care and is diligent about her 10-step skin care routine, there are plenty of other things I could be doing during the time it took to apply seven layers of toner to my skin. That being said, I will of course continue to apply toner as the second step in my regular daily skin care routine—it’s a step in my regimen that I don’t miss—and I will definitely give the seven skin method another go around whenever I want to pamper my skin some TLC.
