Women4Climate: L’Oréal Is Empowering Women to Fight Climate Change

Since it’s Earth Month, we’re doing our best to spotlight L’Oréal brands that are taking strides for the environment. Last month, our parent company, L’Oréal, committed to not only fight climate change, but also to empower women in their efforts to do so. Learn more about L’Oréal’s Women4Climate partnership below!

How L’Oreal Is Empowering Women & Climate Change

We at Skincare.com know that among the many causes near and dear to our parent company, L’Oreal, are gender equality and climate protection. Not only does the Group partake in a systematic effort to drastically reduce its CO2 emissions (down 67 percent from a 2005 baseline), it places women in key leadership roles on the Board and across its brands. As such, it comes as no real surprise that L’Oréal has pledged to become a founding partner of the Women4Climate global initiative, which sets out to contribute to the empowerment of women leaders in fighting climate change.

The Women4Climate Global Initiative

Women around the world—primarily in developing nations—are often responsible for collecting water and food for their communities, making them more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. As the first corporate partner to support the Women4Climate initiative, L’Oréal’s involvement will be far-reaching. The beauty giant has committed to mentoring young women developing solutions to limit the impacts of climate change in C40 cities—more on that below—participating in the program. But that’s not all. The company will also mobilize leading women from its own teams to support future leaders and to strengthen their leadership capabilities.

“At L’Oréal we consider it strategic to engage with C40 women mayors to empower the next generation of women leaders in fighting climate change,” said Alexandra Palt, L’Oréal’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “Women will play a critical role in tackling climate change. It is our responsibility to empower and support them.”

As part of the partnership with C40—a network of megacities committed to driving action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks—and Women4Climate, L'Oréal will fund university chairs around the world to support research on the gender-specific consequences of climate change. L’Oréal will also contribute to finance projects that respond to gender-specific challenges in fighting climate change.
