The SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier, Reviewed
Hyaluronic acid is one of the keys to the hydrated and plump appearance of youthful-looking skin. Our body has natural stores of the ingredient, but as we age, our stores deplete and signs of aging become more prevalent. Thankfully, there’s no lack of hyaluronic acid products on the market. One that caught our eye? The SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier. It works to boost natural levels of hyaluronic acid, promote firmness and increase the smoothness of skin’s texture. When we received a complimentary sample for the purposes of this review, we couldn’t wait to give it a try. Find out everything you need to know about the serum (including our thoughts) ahead.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a hydrator with the ability to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. In other words, it’s extremely hydrating. Board-certified dermatologist and Skincare.com consultant Dr. Lisa Ginn explains that hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it attracts water like a magnet. “These molecules act like sponges that pull water in, in order to pull moisture over your skin like a blanket.” This process is what makes hyaluronic acid serums, like the SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier, so effective. Dr. Ginn adds that hyaluronic acid, sometimes listed as sodium hyaluronate, can be found in serums, moisturizer, masks and more thanks to its versatility.
The Benefits of the SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier
The SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier boasts an impressive roster of ingredients. In addition to hyaluronic acid, the formula also includes proxylane and purple rice extract, which supports the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid reservoir and improves the appearance of surface plumpness, elasticity and firmness. Plus, it gives a 30% boost in hyaluronic acid levels. The H.A. Intensifier also works to reduce the appearance of three major signs of skin aging: crow’s feet, nasolabial folds (laugh lines) and marionette lines (lines around the chin). The product is paraben-free, dye-free and recommended for even the most sensitive skin types.
How to Use the SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier
The serum comes in a glass bottle with a pipette to help with quantity control. Twice daily, squeeze the bulb to draw up the product and then apply four to six drops to your face, extending down to your neck and chest. In the morning, you’ll want to apply this prior to your vitamin C serum. In the evening, this will be applied post-retinol.
Our SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier Review
Upon opening the serum, the first thing we noticed was its color. It’s a gorgeous shade of purple (thanks to the purple rice extract) that you’d expect to see in a tube of lipstick, but not necessarily in a skin-care serum. Initially the product felt more like a light-weight gel, but when applied to the skin, it spread on more like water. The purple texture absorbed into the skin and left our faces hydrated and plumped. Any feelings of tightness were smoothed away. The relief was immediate; we were instantly hooked. After incorporating the serum into our routine for around six weeks, we started to notice a more even skin texture and more hydrated appearance. Fine lines looked less prevalent, our skin felt healthier and our complexion looked more youthful than before.
