3 Beauty Editors Share Their Most Ridiculous Beauty Habits

Beauty editors may have immense insider knowledge on just about everything related to beauty, but that doesn’t mean their beauty habits are always the norm. In fact, sometimes they’re downright ridiculous. We spoke with three beauty editors and found out the weirdest, most over-the-top habits they’ve picked up over their years.

Beauty Habit: Layering Serums

I’m a bit ridiculous with layering serums. I use an essence followed by two serums every morning and night. In the morning, I use a hyaluronic acid serum and SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF. At night, I use an overnight repairing serum. Then, I finish with a retinol.

Beauty Habit #1: Being a Sunscreen Devotee

I am very diligent about sunscreen. I never leave home without applying Broad Spectrum SPF, even if it's rainy or cold outside. I always make sure to apply it to any visible areas before leaving home and I pack a bottle in my bag so that I can reapply every two hours. If I'm at the beach, I'm the annoying person who is always reminding her friends to put on sunscreen and I'm obsessed with finding shade.

Beauty Habit #2: Constant Regimen Changing

I rarely ever stick to the same skin care routine for too long, even though I know I should to actually see results. Just about every week, I'll try a new cleanser, serum, moisturizer, or mask. I get bored easily and there are so many cool products constantly coming out that I just can't stick to the same ones.

Beauty Habit #3: Lip Balm Just About Everywhere

One of my absolute favorite beauty products is lip balm. Seriously I can't live without it! I love lip balm so much that I keep at least one in every purse I own (right now I have three in my bag).

Beauty Habit #1: Living in a Perpetual Spa Day

Unfortunately, it isn’t every day I actually get to go to the spa, but I like to act like that’s where I am most days. While some might see DIY spa days as just a special occasion treat, not me. There’s never a bad time to indulge your skin, and there’s certainly not a better time than the end of a long day at work or busy weekend. When I’m ready for some serious relaxation, I enjoy a leisurely soak in the tub—bath bomb included, of course—and cover my face completely with my favorite face masks. (FYI, I’m currently feeling the L’Oréal Paris Pure-Clay Clear & Comfort Face Mask, which I received complimentary from the brand.)

Beauty Habit #2: Misting All the Time

I’m sure I’m not alone in my love of face mists, but before I was a beauty editor, I used them sparingly, savoring every last spray. Now that my collection of face sprays has expanded, I’m not quite as modest with my mist management. Rather, I’ve taken to misting at every opportunity. To set my makeup, of course. To refresh throughout the day, duh. To prime prior to makeup, yes please! (Seriously though, if you haven’t tried that last little trick, get on it.) Spritz, spritz, spritz. I mean, really, what’s more satisfying?

Beauty Habit #3: Playing Mix Master with Foundation

One foundation may be nice, but many foundations is even nicer. Stepping into a store and searching for a foundation that’s “close enough” to your skin tone may feel like the easiest option, but I prefer to get a little crafty with my cover-up. Instead of trying to make a foundation work for my complexion that might not be quite right, I have a few on hand that I can mix together to get the perfect shade. The extra minutes spent mixing and finding that just-right color are well worth it in my book, especially if I never have to worry about my face and neck looking totally mismatched.

Editor’s note: Remember: Skin care is not one size fits all. While these unique beauty habits may work for our editors, that’s not to say the same will hold true for you.
