Jessica, Junior Editor:
When it comes to my skin care routine, I’m a total creature of habit. I prefer to keep it consistent and familiar with a less-is-more approach. I have my list of holy grail items that I apply religiously, and so far (fingers crossed!) it’s been working out just fine.
I’m definitely not a morning person, so my streamlined, unfussy A.M. skin care regimen actually works in my favor because I can sleep a little longer—every extra second counts, let’s be real—without sacrificing any steps in my routine. I begin with a gentle, no-frills micellar water cleanser, like La Roche-Posay Micellar Water, because 1) my skin is somewhat sensitive and 2) it works to cleanse plus remove makeup. I make sure to remove my makeup every night, but if there’s any lingering bits of mascara I missed come morning, this cleanser will take care of it. I simply wet a cotton pad with the liquid and sweep it across my face. Then, I follow up with a hydrating moisturizer that contains SPF to protect my skin from sun damage. I use Lancôme Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Day Cream. It’s non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog my pores, and leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft. I let it do its thing—aka soak in—for a few moments and then move onto my lips. I’m neurotic about a dry pout, so I apply Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 to relieve that awful chapped feeling and voila, I’m ready to tackle the day.
Jessie, Junior Editor:
Like Jessica, I’m not a morning person, so I like to keep my morning regimen as simple as possible— though when it comes to taking care of my skin, I have a hard time staying away from practicing a 10-step routine morning and night.
When I wake up, I head to the bathroom and rinse my face with cool water. This habit is more about waking myself up than it is about caring for my skin, but rinsing your face in cold water or using an ice cube face mask can benefit the skin in a variety of ways. After I’m some-what awake, I flip the faucet to warm and reach for the face wash. Right now, I am using The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish, as my complexion became very dull this past winter and I have been attempting to revive it. Since incorporating a product formulated with vitamin C in my skin care regimen, I have found that my overall complexion appears brighter and more radiant.
Once my face is fresh, and if I have time—if I’m being honest, this usually only happens on Saturday and Sunday mornings—I treat my skin to a moisturizing face mask like, Decléor’s Hydra Floral Ultra-Hydrating & Plumping Expert Mask. After I’ve masked, I apply an essence. Right now I am really into Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Essence Treatment. I love how it gives my skin some extra hydration before applying a moisturizer and activates the skin’s natural exfoliation process, which can result in smoother, softer skin. Once the essence has soaked in, I apply a lightweight moisturizer with SPF like, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 30. I find that using a moisturizer formulated with SPF makes it a lot easier to remember to apply SPF before heading out for the day and like that this moisturizer goes on light and doesn’t smell like sunscreen—perfect for wearing on its own or under makeup.
Jackie, Editor in Chief:
Each morning I start my skin care routine by using a micellar water to remove any buildup of sweat, oil, and product. With micellar water, I can feel confident that I’m not stripping my skin of any moisture—like some cleansers can—and I'm still getting a clean canvas for my glam. Right now I'm loving the Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in-1 One Step Solution. Vichy's products are all formulated with their exclusive mineralizing water from the French volcanoes—15 rare minerals to be exact!
Next, I use a serum I recently received at Kiehl's Flagship, where they take you through their new Apothecary Preparations service. A specialist will evaluate your skin and your needs and then create a bespoke skin care serum just for you and your skin. Mine is for enlarged pores and texture and since it's mixed with a hydrating base it's really great in the morning.
Then, I use a moisturizer plus SPF because double-duty products are a busy girl's must-have. Right now I'm obsessed with a soon-to-launch product from L'Oreal Paris, which I received from the brand during a recent launch event. The Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer is formulated with broad-spectrum SPF 30 and glycolic acid—my personal favorite skin care ingredient—to help visibly brighten skin, even tone, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles all while protecting my skin from the sun.
Depending on my schedule (read: how late I wake up) three times a week I reach for a face mask after I cleanse and before the serum and moisturizer. Right now I'm rotating between Kiehl's Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque which I feel gives my skin an instant boost of radiance, SkinCeuticals Biocellulose Restorative Masque when I want a little soothing hydration, and The Body Shop's Deep Cleansing Mineral and Ginger Warming Massage Clay Mask when I want a deep cleanse.
Noelle, Social Media Editor:
Sleep is very precious to me, so I always deep cleanse and apply serums at night, so that I can get ready faster in the morning. When I wake up, the first thing I do is rinse my face with cold water to make me feel more awake. Then, I apply L’Oréal Paris’ Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer from the brand’s RevitaLift line. It can provide moisture throughout the day and also has SPF, which can protect my skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. I love this product because it has a subtle shimmer effect, which can blur imperfections and provides my skin with a nice glow. Once the moisturizer has soaked in, I apply a bronzer with SPF—for extra protection—and a swipe of mascara and I’m off to work!
