3 Quick Fixes for a Bad Skin Day

Bad skin days—we’ve all been there. We wake up in the morning and our skin is marred with unexpected pimples, dry patches, and discolored marks that were certainly not there before we shut our eyes. To add insult to injury, bad skin days always seem to happen at the worst possible times, be it ahead of a big presentation or a first date you’ve been looking forward to for weeks. Before you allow your cruddy-looking skin to ruin your mood (or day, for that matter), know that there are some simple fixes to help. Ahead, we share three tried-and-tested fixes that can help spruce up your complexion in a pinch. They may only offer a temporarily fix to your bad skin day but hey, they’re better than nothing.

GRAB SOME ICE

When it comes to de-puffing, calming, and hydrating skin, few things are more refreshing than applying a product that’s been chilled. Since under-eye bags, puffiness, and dark circles are one of the biggest skin complaints in the A.M, you’ll often find beauty junkies storing spoons and eye creams in the fridge for short-term vasoconstriction, cooling, and de-puffing of the area. While those are certainly good skin care tips to follow, reach for an ice cube next time you head towards the freezer. Wrap it into a fine handkerchief or cloth and glide it over your skin. If it’s a hot day, you’ll especially love this trick!

GIVE YOUR SKIN A DEWY GLOW

Does your skin look dry, dull, and lifeless? Don’t fret. Mix a few drops of hydrating serum or facial oil—like L’Oreal Paris’ Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Facial Oil—into your moisturizer and apply it to your skin. This trick is sure to give your complexion a boost with a dewy, radiant glow. Bye-bye dry patches!

Tip: If you don’t have serum on hand, you can also reach for face mist. Spray it all over your skin after cleansing, toning, and moisturizing to up the hydration ante. Try Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water.

HIDE BLEMISHES WITH CONCEALER

Concealer is an arsenal must-have, especially on bad skin days. Whether it’s in stick, liquid, powder, or cushion form, a good concealer can help camouflage blemishes, dark circles, discolored marks, as well as even out your skin’s tone. One of our favorites is Dermablend Quick-Fix Concealer. (Could the name be any more appropriate?) The stick applicator makes applying simple and precise, and the full-coverage formula feels soft and comfortable on the skin.
