Editor's Pick: Kiehl's Hydrating Avocado Eye Cream
With 4.6* stars out of a perfect 5 from customer reviews we had to see what the fan-favorite avocado eye cream from Kiehl’s was all about. The brand sent us a complimentary sample of its beloved avocado eye cream to review, find out what we thought!
While I’ve historically always reached for eye creams to tackle my number one skin care concern—cough cough, dark circles—recently I found that the transition to a colder climate was leaving the delicate skin around my eye contour dry. When skin is dry it can cause wrinkles and fine lines to appear more pronounced—and frankly as a 30-year-old who’s just starting to see evidence of those fine lines known not-so-affectionately as crow’s feet, this was not okay with me. Thankfully when sifting through the samples in the Skincare.com closet I saw we had Kiehl’s avocado eye cream available to review. Creamy texture? Hydrates the eye area? Doesn’t migrate into your eyes? I was sold. To find out if Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado lived up to its hype—and to discover if this avocado eye cream is for you—check out the review below!
The Benefits of Kiehl’s Avocado Eye Cream
The Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado was tested by ophthalmologists and dermatologists. It’s a creamy preparation formulated with avocado oil that helps gently moisturize the delicate eye area with its uniquely concentrated texture. The avocado oil, which is a rich, fatty-acid emollient known to be a moisturizing fruit oil, helps to restore hydration to the skin and according to Kiehl’s it is also a source of amino acid proteins, vitamins A, D, and E, and potassium. The cream also is formulated with beta-carotene—an antioxidant found in orange and red vegetables like carrots that is rich in vitamin A—and shea butter—a fat obtained from the fruit of the African Karate tree that’s used in many lotions for its hydrating properties.
Review of Kiehl’s Avocado Eye Cream
The first note I made when I opened up my small jar of Kiehl’s avocado eye cream to start the review process was its incredibly thick, creamy texture. Most of my eye creams to-date have had more of a gel or serum texture—but, as I said before, most of them weren’t being used for hydration. Needless to say, the unique creamy texture made me feel confident this eye cream would be a winner in the moisture department. I used a clean ring finger to take a small amount of the product (disclaimer: a little bit goes a LONG way with this stuff) and I gently tapped it around each eye’s orbital bone.
The reason we’re told to use our ring finger—or even your pinky—to apply an eye cream is because they are supposedly the weakest of our digits. Since the eye area is so thin and delicate, any rough tugging or rubbing (yes, even when removing makeup at night) can be a contributing source of skin wrinkling and even dark circles. Now, for why we’re told to only apply eye cream to the orbital bone: simply put, would you put a skin care product into your eye? We didn’t think so. Since most eye creams feature thinner formulas, they can often migrate into the eye over the course of a day or night. By carefully applying the creams to the orbital bone—that is, the area surrounding the eye contour—you are protecting your peepers from the product while still getting all those goodies where you need them.
This migration is actually something I’ve experienced in the past with other eye creams. Partly because I applied them too close to my eye thinking this was the best way to get rid of my inherited and not-going-anywhere-soon dark circles, but also because often the formulas I used were very fluid. Kiehl’s avocado eye cream is the exact opposite. This product was designed so that it won’t migrate and it truly lives up to that claim. Not once have I woken up to red, irritated-looking eyes caused by the eye cream. Caused by watching a sad movie before bed? That’s another story.
After reviewing Kiehl’s avocado eye cream for a few months I can now attest to the following:
- The thick formula stays put—no eye cream migration here, folks!
- It moisturizes the eye contour—my eye area looks more hydrated and youthful because of it.
- Because of the unique concentrated formula, even the smaller pot of the eye cream will last you awhile—and who doesn’t love a product that has legs?
I can officially see why Kiehl’s avocado eye cream is a customer favorite—currently boasting 4.7 stars out of a perfect 5—because it’s officially one of mine as well!
